One of the most obvious choices for shooting at a shooting range near you is the ability to safely shoot your gun. However, you shouldn’t just choose any shooting range near you. You should choose somewhere that has rules to protect you and others. Rules like:
Inexperienced shooters must be accompanied by someone with ample experience. Or just take some training before entering the shooting range.
Check-in before shooting
Eye and ear protection must be worn at all times
No drugs or alcohol on the range
No one under the influence of drugs or alcohol allowed in the range
Firearms unloaded unless at shooting station, finger off the trigger until pointed downrange
Unload and/or case your gun before leaving the range
Follow all range staff instructions immediately, including a ceasefire
All minors must be accompanied by parent/guardian
Two people maximum per lane
Having these types of rules and more can help protect yourself if you are a new gun owner. It also protects everyone else on the gun range. When looking for somewhere to shoot, look for a place that has safety rules that are upfront and center. You don’t want to go somewhere that is okay with carelessness. That can lead to dangerous situations even for experienced shooters.
